Bible Passages:
"Do not go to mediums or consult fortune tellers, for you will be defiled by them. I, the Lord, am
your God"
(Leviticus 19:31)
"Should anyone turn to mediums and fortune-tellers
and follow their wonton ways, I will turn against
such a one and cut him of from his people. Sanctify yourselves, then,
and be holy: for I, the lord, your
God, am holy."
(Leviticus 20:6)
"Let there not be found among
you anyone who immolates his son or daughter in the fire, nor a fortune-
teller, soothsayer, charmer, diviner or caster
of spells, nor one who consults ghosts and spirits or seeks
oracles from the dead. Any who does such things
is an abomination to the Lord, and because such
abominations the Lord, your God, is driving these nations out of
your way. You however, must be
altogether sincere toward the lord, your God. Through these nations whom you are
to dispossess listen
to their soothsayers and fortune-tellers, the Lord, your God wil not permit you to do so."
(Deuteronomy 18: 10-14)
The Lord said to Moses, 'Soon you will be rest with your fathers, and then this people will take to
rendering wanton worship to the strange gods among whom they will live in the land they are about to
enter. They
will forsake me and break the covenant which I made with them. At that time my anger
will flare up against
them; I will forsake them and hide my face from them. so that they will become
prey to be devoured, and many evils and
troubles will befall them. At that time they will indeed say,
'Is it not before our God is not among us that these
evils have befallen us? 'Yet I will be hiding my
face from them at that time only because of all the evil they have
done in turning to other gods.'
(Deuteronomy 31: 16-18)
As we were going to the place of prayer, we met a slave girl with an oracular spirit, who used to bring
a large profit
to her owners through her fortune-telling. She began to follow Paul and us shouting,
'These people are slaves
of the Most High God, who proclaim to youa way of salvation.' She did this
for many days. Paul became annoyed,
turned, and said to the spirit, 'I command you in the name of
Jesus Christ to come outr of her. " then it came
out at that moment."
(Acts 16: 16-18)
